Project Detail

DARS - Degree Audit Reporting System

The Degree Audit Reporting System - or DARS for short - is developed by Miami University to compare a student's academic work - at any point in the student's career - with the requirements of an institution's academic program or programs, and to prepare a comprehensive report detailing the student's progress toward meeting those requirements. It can answer students' questions such as: "What do I have to take to graduate?", "Have I met my graduation requirements?" and "What would I still have to take if I switched my major?"

DARS was purchased by the College of Arts & Sciences back in 1994. DARS is written in Cobol and it runs on the University's IBM mainframe platform. ITS' main responsibility is to transfer and format students' course and program information from ISIS into the DARS environment thereby allowing DARS reports to be produced. Recent accomplishments include being able to submit and receive DARS reports via a web browser.

FMIS - Financial Management Information System

The Financial Management Information System (FMIS) was implemented on July 1, 1996. The system maintains the financial information for the entire University of Hawaii system by breaking it down into the 12 campuses (Systemwide, Manoa, Hilo, West Oahu, CC Admin & ETC, Honolulu CC, Kapiolani CC, Leeward CC, Maui CC, Kauai CC, Hawaii CC, and Windward CC).

Nine modules and/or sub-systems have been implemented: Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Contracts and Grants, Budget Level Summary, Payroll Inquiry, and Purchasing, Accounts Receivable, Departmental Checking, and
Fixed Assets.

ISIS - Integrated Student Information System

ISIS consists of the following modules: course catalog, schedule of classes, admissions, student biographic data, registration, and academic history. ISIS modules interact with the Accounts Receivable Information System (ARIS) module which handles student payments. In Fall 1996, ISIS interfaced with the Pa'e phone registration module.

The ISIS software system was purchased from Systems and Computer Technology Corporation (SCT) in 1986. Fall 1986 registration was the first term to use the ISIS online system. ISIS serves undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in either the UHM's day program or the Summer Session program. Starting with Fall 1997, the College of Continuing Education and Community Service students were added to ISIS. Over 700 faculty and staff at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa campus utilize ISIS in their jobs.

ISIS is written in Cobol, and runs on the UHM's IBM mainframe platform. Software AG's Natural is used for most of the batch reporting. ITS/MIS supports and maintains ISIS.

See ISIS Calendar of Events for 2002

For information on getting an ISIS account, please call the Admissions & Records Office @ 956-8975, or visit them at the Student Services Center room 001.

PeopleSoft - Human Resource Management System

Peoplesoft version 8.8SP1 is in production since December 2004.

The migration from version 7.5 to version 8.8SP1 was performed successfully during the last week of November 2004 and the new version is available since December 1, 2004.

PeopleSoft version 8.8SP1 software is functioning as a pure internet architecture. Using most of Internet Explorer and Netscape versions, authorized users can access this version: http://ps.hawaii.edu.

SAIS - Student Aid Information System

The Student Aid Information System (SAIS) maintains and tracks Financial Aids awarded to eligible UH Manoa students. In 1992, the administrative computing system was upgraded. This allowed SAIS to be rewritten in a 4th generation language, NATURAL, and enhanced to meet additional needs of the Financial Aid Services Office (FAS). The Information Technology Services together with key personnel from the FAS began the rewrite in March of 1992. The new SAIS was completed and implemented in February of 1993. The SAIS online system maintains biographical, financial, award and document information. It also provides information from the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS). The SAIS batch system generates operational and managerial reports, as well as extracts data to other systems.

SECE - Student Employment & Cooperative Education

URL: https://sece.its.hawaii.edu

The Student Employment & Cooperative Education (SECE) system was launched in the beginning of the Fall 2000 semester and provides UH students the ability to search for jobs and obtain referrals online. It also provides both University and non-University employers the ability to post and manage their jobs online. There were additional releases during 2002 that includes: migration from a SQL Server database to Oracle, implementation of the MVC paradigm and Struts framework, and online hiring functions with a direct interface to SCOPIS. The application is Java-based and accommodates all 10 campuses of the UH System. Currently only Manoa and Kauai CC are online but plans are underway to implement the system at all the other campuses.

Questions regarding the SECE project should be directed to mis-info@hawaii.edu or sece@hawaii.edu.

SIMS - Student Information Management System

The Student Information Management System (SIMS) is a data warehouse of student and course information for the University of Hawai'i system. SIMS provides the University of Hawaii with the information needed for planning, policy making and decision support. The system was developed in Natural. Processing takes place on the University's IBM Mainframe platform, then data are ported to Oracle for users to access. SIMS is also being used to maintain the University's reporting capacity, while efforts are underway to develop an integrated management reporting system using the Banner Datamart.

The SIMS Codeset is available at: http://www.ovppp.hawaii.edu/sims/

SIS - Student Information System

The Student Information System (SIS) provides system-wide management information on student enrollment and activity. The system establishes student and course schedule information data bases from which managerial information is retrieved, and provides administrators with student information to assist them in planning and decision-making on an institution-wide basis. Reports are produced by programs written in COBOL and NATURAL running on the University's IBM Mainframe platform. Users include the Institutional Research Office and Admissions & Records.

UH Manoa Student Tracking System

This project was developed by NCHEMS to provide the capability to track annual cohorts at Manoa for data analysis and reports. This system is written in SPSS and runs on the University's Unix platform.

System-wide Student Tracking System

This project was developed by NCHEMS to provide a one-time data analysis and reports. We took their programming and modified them to be on-going annual system-wide student tracking reports. This system is written in SPSS and runs on the University's Unix platform.
